The technique for coating the walls of tunnels, shafts, slopes, using projections of concrete, it takes different names depending on the maximum size of aggregate used and the purpose of the request:
GUNITE mortar or projected, when the inert (sand) does not exceed 1-4 mm.; almost exclusively to covering waterproofing or protective function.
SHOTCRETE shotcrete or sprayed concrete or when the aggregates (sand and gravel) has bigger size (up to 20-25 mm.) has a structural function.
Gunite and shotcrete do not differ in their laying, carried out by a jet of compressed air to project the violence with concrete to be coated on the wall making it adhere strongly. To avoid dropping or dripping of the material applied, it also uses sodium silicate as the cement setting accelerator.
